Bengaluru: Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T B Jayachandra on Wednesday said the Opposition parties should not politicize the Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Briefing media persons here, Minister Jayachandra said the Cabinet discussed the latest Supreme Court’s directive to Karnataka to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. “We have convened an all-party meet in the evening. We will discuss the issue during the all-party meeting. After availing the opinions and suggestions from floor leaders of political parties in the Assembly and farmers’ leaders, the Cabinet will take a decision,’’ Minister Jayachandra said.
On BJP’s decision to boycott the all-party meet, Minister Jayachandra said that political parties should not politicize the Cauvery issue by boycotting the all-party meet. “The need of the hour is not to boycott the meet but discuss the issue to find ways and means on how to protect farmers’ interests,’’ the minister said.
He said the invitations were sent to all political parties to attend the meet in the evening. “We have invited MPs and MLAs from Cauvery basin and floor leaders of political parties, including Union Ministers, to attend the meeting. I hope all of them attend the meet to discuss Cauvery issue,’’ he said.
