Bengaluru: Karnataka’s multi state population may heave a sigh of relief, when and if the Centre steps in  with its One nation, one road tax proposal for which an on going campaign is picking up steam.
The campaign—One nation, one road tax has reached the tables of the Union Minister of transport, highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari with about 55,000 signatures from citizens across the country. The campaign was essentially intended to amend the archaic motor vehicles rules that forces vehicle owners shifting from one state to other to pay annual road tax in every state, if they ply their vehicles for more than 30 days where they relocated.

Waseem Menon, one of the residents of Bengaluru who spearheaded the campaign said, “We want the government to ensure that the harassment by RTOs stop across all states regarding this tax issue. We have met the minister and handed him documents. He also said that the issue of multiple taxation will be addressed in the new motor vehicles bill that is yet to be tabled in the parliament.”
