Bengaluru: The High Ground Police on Wednesday arrested a person for stealing women’s lingerie by trespassing into Maharani Women’s College Hostel campus. The police have identified the arrested person as Abu Taleem, 33, working at Bangalore Turf Club’s horse stable.
“We have arrested the accused. We have to subject him to medical test. We will decide after availing the medical report. We came to know that he was suffering with this mental disorder for quite a long time,’’ said Dr Chandra Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bangalore Central.
According to police, Abu Taleem entered nude into Maharani Women’s Hostel campus and stole women’s lingerie and would wear it and discard those clothes after a few days. He was captured on CCTV and after the footage went viral. The hostel warden lodged a complaint with High Grounds Police on March 21.
“We have received a written complaint from the warden of Maharani Women’s College Hostel against a unknown person entering the hostel premises at midnight and walking with the clothes put on clothesline for drying. We have enquired around 100 suspects and finally zeroed in on Abu Taleem,’’ said Lakshmikanth, Police Inspector, High Grounds Police Station.
The police said they were receiving similar complaints six months ago but there was no evidence available due to lack of CCTV facility at the hostel premises.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Abu Taleem came to Bangalore from Singadi village in Kishanganj district in Bihar 10 years ago. According to the police, Abu Taleem would wear women’s lingerie and smell them for a couple of days and then throw them. He confessed to police that he was very attracted to women’s clothes and had developed close intimacy with many transgender women.
On days when he would not be able to find other women’s inner-wear, he would wear his wife’s lingerie beneath his shirt and trousers while dressing up for work. “This is a mental disorder wherein the patient has a strong fetish for women’s lingerie,’’ according to Dr Meena Gynashekaran, psychiatrist, Columbia Asia Hospital, Yeshwanthpur.
