Bengaluru: The Janata Dal (Secular) leaders have warned the Congress party that if they don’t get one Rajya Sabha seat for the party then their alliance with the Congress in the the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) would be called off. Elections will be held for the four seats of Rajya Sabha from the state Assembly on March 23.
The Congress can field three candidates from its strength of MLAs. But, it lacks few votes to win the third seat. So, the JD(S) is demanding for one seat, and the JD(S) Rajya Sabha Member Kupendra Reddy is already in contact with the Congress leaders in New Delhi, according to the sources.
The Congress may field businessman Chenna Reddy, who is a close friend of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while the JD(S) may field B. M Farooq as the third candidate.
For the first two seats, there is huge competition within the Congress. Attempts have been initiated by Minister Roshan Baig, Nazeer Ahmed, Saleem Ahmed, Rani Sathish, Kailasnath Patil, Chenna Reddy, Malaka Reddy, Shyamanuru Shivashankarappa, former speaker Meera Kumar and Shivaraj Patil. So, it may be difficult for Congress to give up one seat to JD(S).
Meanwhile, BJP has almost come to conclusion to field Rajeev Chandrasekar as its candidate, said the sources
