Bengaluru: Denying the allegations of right-wing organisations claiming that the police have been curtailing the upcoming Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations, Director-General and Inspector General of Police R.K. Dutta, on Saturday, said there are no restrictions.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad had, on Friday, issued a statement alleging that the police are demanding deposits from organisations in Mangaluru, Puttur and other parts of the State to take out processions. There were allegations that the deposits demanded from mandals are as high as Rs. 10 lakh.

At a press conference on Saturday, Dutta reiterated that the police have not imposed such restrictions and that the jurisdictional police in charge of the districts have been directed to provide adequate security during the celebrations to ensure law and order.

“Police will take security measures as per requirement. Like every year, bandobust will be the responsibility of the district administration and the superintendent of police of the commissioner,’’ Dutta said.

He said the police beat system, which was streamlined recently, is getting good response. A present, cops are using their personal cellphones to communicate with seniors and residents of their respective jurisdictions. A proposal has been sent to the government to provide them with free SIM cards, he said.
