Bengaluru: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa stated here on Sunday May 30, that the COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has not yet suggested that the state-wide lockdown be extended beyond June 7. However, discussions on the same are ongoing.

After handing ration packages to sanitation employees, he told reporters that a decision would be made based on the prevailing situation on June 6, the day before the lockdown ends.

Sources states that when asked if the TAC had advised that the lockdown be extended, Yediyurappa answered, ” There are ongoing discussions. We’ll have to wait and see how the cases come down after June 5 and 6.”

The Chief Minister stated that COVID-19 infections were still high in the state.

“The cases continue to exceed beyond our expectations. On the 5th or 6th of June, we will host a meeting with ministers and experts to decide on the next steps,” he added.

Karnataka has already had restrictions in place since April 27, and they were made strict from May 10 onwards in order to slow the spread of COVID-19.

On Saturday, the state, which has been reporting a decrease in new cases since May 21, with the exception of one day on May 26, recorded 20,628 infections, 492 fatalities, and 3.5 lakh active cases.
