No last rites in K’taka for people who die in other states

Bengaluru: A day after state registered highest number of Covid-19 positive cases, the state government decided to implement lockdown norms strictly.

Fearing that the funeral procession and rituals may result in the spread of the Covid 19 cases, the state government banned the transport of dead bodies of the people who die in other states.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa informed that the families shall be requested to carry out the final rites locally instead of bringing the dead bodies into the state.

This direction has come amidst reports that in Mandya, four persons of a family were infected with Covid 19 after attending a funeral.

On Sunday, the Mandya district administration blocked the movement of an ambulance on Mandya border which was transporting a body of a woman, who died in Pune. 

The body has been kept at the Mandya district hospital.
