Bengaluru: The Cable TV operators have decided to switch off the service on Thursday in protest against the new cable policy of the union government. This means cable TVs will go blank between 6 AM and 10 PM on Thursday.
According to the Cable Operators union president Patrick Raju, under the new system, both the TV viewers and the cable operators will face a lot of problems. “It is a symbolic protest. Cable operators from across South India are participating in the bandh,” he said adding that the DTH sets will be functional.
With the idea of streamlining the unorganised cable service sector, the union government has decided to bring several changes in the system including the mandatory disclosure of the channel-wise tariff, the monthly bill for all the connections, mandatory Set Top Box (STB) etc. But cable operators are opposing this.
