Bangalore: Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa’s bail plea in disproportionate assets case.

Earlier, as the bail petition of jailed Jayalalithaa came up for hearing, the city police have clamped prohibitory orders on the premises of High Court and the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, where Jayalalithaa is been lodged.

City police commissioner M.N. Reddi imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in a radius of one kilometre around the high court and the central jail. It will be in effect from Monday midnight till Tuesday midnight.

The prohibitory orders have been imposed as a precautionary step, as thousands of Ms Jayalalithaa’s followers are expected to come to the city during the hearing of the bail petition. Mr Reddi said that all arrangements were made to make sure that law and order is maintained.

The police, however, do not expect any untoward incidents. The top cop also held a meeting of other senior police officers in the city to discuss the security arrangements. A large number of police force will be deployed at the High Court as well as the Central Prison.

Even a week after Jayalalithaa’s arrest, some of her followers came to the city to visit her. A few MLAs and MPs also came to visit her on Monday. However, no one was allowed to meet her. Her followers expressed their protest by tonsuring their heads at the Central Prison. Some of them also engaged in heated argument with the police for not letting them to meet “Amma”.
