Bengaluru: Niranjan Thomas Alva, husband of former Governor of Uttarakhand and Rajasthan Margaret Alva, died on April 7 at a hospital, where he was admitted following a chest infection.

Alva aged 78, breathed his last this morning, his family informed the media here.

He was admitted to the M S Ramaiah Hospital in the city following chest congestion. He had been in the ICU for 20 days, a close family member revealed.

The funeral will be held on April 8 (tomorrow) in Bengaluru.

Alva was the son of the first parliamentarian couple, Joachim Alva and Violet Alva. A Supreme Court lawyer, Alva is survived by three sons and a daughter.
