Bengaluru: Recently, during his campaign, Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s tried to drink water from a tender coconut in Mandya without a straw. This was used by a JDS activist to create hype around him, however, it became good material for social media troll pages. Things, however, took a surprising turn when Nikhil received appreciation for not using a straw from an unexpected leader- Tejaswini Ananthkumar.
Tejaswini, who is known for her involvement in the anti-plastic movement, appreciated Nikhil’s gesture and style. In a series of tweets, she pointed out that every day, thousands of plastic straws are thrown on the ground after people drink from tender coconuts. So, his act must be appreciated.
She tweeted in Kannada and English saying, “Nikhil Gowda doesn’t use straw for drinking tender coconut. This maybe for whatever reason. We will also do the same, bcoz everyday lacks of plastic straws are used. These straws end up in water bodies and land fills. Lets directly drink from coconut or carry a steel straw.”
