Bengaluru: On Monday morning, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at 19 locations across four states, leading to the arrest of eight individuals associated with the banned terrorist organization, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The raids targeted locations in Bengaluru and Ballari in Karnataka, as well as cities in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi.
The alleged leader, Minaz alias Mohd Sulaiman, was apprehended from Cowlbazar in Ballari, Karnataka. Other arrests were made in Amaravati, Mumbai, and Pune in Maharashtra; Jamshedpur and Bokaro in Jharkhand; and Delhi. In Karnataka, Minaz and Syed Sameer were arrested from Cowlbazar in Ballari, while Mohd Muniruddin, Syed Samiullah alias Sami, and Mohd Muzammil were arrested from Byadarahalli in Bengaluru West. The remaining detainees are Anas Iqbal Shaikh from Mumbai, Shayan Rahman alias Hussain from Delhi, and Mohd Shahbaz alias Zulfikar alias Guddu from Jamshedpur, with sources suggesting that Muniruddin, Samiullah, and Muzammil hail from Ballari.
According to an official statement by the NIA, the arrested individuals were actively involved in promoting terror and terror-related activities on behalf of ISIS under Minaz’s leadership. The investigation uncovered their use of encrypted apps for communication, with a specific focus on recruiting college students. Additionally, the group was found circulating documents related to the recruitment of Mujahideen for Jihad purposes.
