Bengaluru: At a time when the AICC and KPCC leadership are trying to streamline the party’s strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the newly elected MLA from Jamakhandi assembly constituency has created a major embarrassment by making an anti-Brahmin statement. As his video clipping went viral on news channels and social media, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao issued a gag order and made him apologize.
On Tuesday night, Anand Nyamagowda, newly elected MLA from the Jamakhandi assembly constituency, was invited by local Muslim organizations for a felicitation programme. In the event, Anand spoke in the Urdu language. He was found stating that in the year 1991, his father defeated Ramakrishna Hegade, a Brahmin, and now he also defeated Shrikantha Kulkarni, the BJP’s candidate who belongs to the Brahmin community.
As the video went viral on Wednesday, the KPCC leadership summoned him to Bengaluru and forced him to issue an apology. Later in the day, the KPCC issued an advisory to all its leaders stating no communal or caste-sensitive comments will be tolerated henceforth.
