Bengaluru: Uber is again the news – and once again for all the wrong reasons. Its been reported that the Bengaluru police booked a cab driver working for Uber on charges of allegedly misbehaving with a woman passenger. The case was filed on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman at the Jnanabharathi police station on Saturday.

The police say that, according to the complainant, she booked the cab using her mobile app on July 3, 2015 (Saturday) for a ride from Electronics City to her mother’s home in Mallathahalli off Magadi Road. The driver picked her around 6:15 pm and headed towards Mallathahalli.
Apparently, the driver, Suresh (Registration No KA-05, E-4991), was on his mobile phone talking to his friends for a majority part of the journey. In his conversation with his friends, he was abusing the passenger for booking a journey to a different part of the city and how he was bound to complete the journey or face action from his employers. He also revealed the destination of the passenger to his friend over phone.
It seems that the passenger, was miffed at the way in which the driver was abusing her over the phone to his friends and tackled him directly. The driver then directly verbally abused her calling her a “professional burden”
When the cab reached the destination, the passenger informed her mother, who tried to reason with the driver. However, he allegedly told them to mind her own business.
“Throughout the journey he was abusing me for booking the trip over phone to his friend. His behavior and talks were aggressive and I am hurt by his behaviour. His conversation with his friend was demeaning me. I was traveling with my baby and felt threatened in the manner he was addressing me,” the woman passenger said.
On studying his response and behaviour, the passenger decided to bring it to the notice of the law enforcement agencies. In her complaint, she has requested the police to summon the driver and teach him to respect women and treat passengers with dignity and honour.
