Bengaluru: A 21-year-old man slashed the face of his 24-year-old aunt with a blade for rejecting his marriage proposal.

The victim identified as Lakshmi was waiting at the busy bus stand in Vijayanagar when the incident occurred.

She was rushed to a private hospital and is said to be out of danger. Neelakanta, her nephew was arrested on the charge of attempt to murder.

According to the police, Lakshmi, a native of Hosadurga in Chitradurga was married four years ago and she moved to Bengaluru recently and stayed at a paying accommodation in Vijaya Nagar, said the police.

On Wednesday, Neelakanta came to Subbanna Garden and met Lakshmi and proposed to her.

Lakshmi reportedly rejected the proposal and instead advised him to focus on his career. Enraged, the man flipped out a blade from his pocket and slashed Lakshmi’s left and right cheeks and forehead before fleeing from the spot, the police said.
