Bengaluru: Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) would hand over three bogies to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on February 14 , but the passengers have to wait at least one more month to travel in them.

At present, the metro trains have 3 bogies and density of passengers is more during peak hours. Though trains have trips once in every 4-minute, sometimes it becomes difficult for the passengers to enter the bogies. So, the corporation decided to add additional bogies to the metro trains.

The corporation has signed a MoU with BEML in March 2017, worth Rs.1,421 crore for 150 new bogies, which should be provided within December 2019. The manufacturing work is going on and the company will provide 3 bogies on February 14, said BMRCL MD Mahendra Jain.

The bogies are being transported from BEML to Baiyappanahalli. Before using them for commercial purpose, they will be tested for speed, safety and other aspects.

“They can be used only after approval from Railway Safety Commissioner. The process would take at least one month time,” another official said.

At present, the density of passengers is more in purple line. So, these bodies will be added to one of those trains. Each metro train has a capacity of 950 passengers and it would increase up to 1850 after renovation,” he said.

Meanwhile, BMRCL has assured of a special bogie for women after increasing the number of bogies. The corporation had promised of increasing the number of bogies in December 2017 itself, but it could not happen as bogies were not provided on time.
