Bengaluru: Naming the roads after well-known persons is a common trend, but of late even naming and renaming roads and cities have become a matter of political debate.
Following the footsteps of UP chief minister Yogi Adithyanath, Nagarabhavi BJP corporator Umesh Shetty has recommended renaming of several roads in his ward after Hindu Gods.
Nagarabavi Corporator Umesh Shetty was irked by the decision of the BBMP to approve renaming the roads in Bapujinagar ward after Muslim achievers, on request of local corporator. Shetty then said that he too wanted to rename a few roads in his ward as Sri Rama road, Ayodhya road and Anjaniputra road.
Shetty justified his actions by stating that if the BBMP is ready to rename few roads of the neighboring ward by Muslim names as per the recommendation of local corporator, why roads of his ward can’t be named after Hindu gods.
