Bengaluru: The Lokayukta Superintendent of Police, Mysuru, and his car driver were killed in a road accident on Mysuru Road near Kumbalagod on Wednesday night.
The police have identified the deceased as Ravi Kumar, a 2008 batch Karnataka State Police officer hailing from Doddaballapur who was promoted as Superintendent of Police recently, and his driver Kiran Kumar, a City Armed Reserve (CAR) constable hailing from Hassan. Ravi Kumar had become a father a week ago, said senior police officials.
Ravi Kumar had come to Bengaluru on Wednesday for a meeting at the Karnataka Lokayukta office and was returning to Mysuru when the accident occurred.
According to the police sources, the driver of a tipper lorry coming from Mysuru towards Bengaluru lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and collided head-on with the police officer’s car.
While Kiran Kumar was killed on the spot, passers-by rescued Ravi Kumar from the mangled metal of the car and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a few minutes later, according to the police.
The tipper lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot.
