Bengaluru: A delegation of members from the Press Club of Bangalore and Bengaluru Reporters’ Guild called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday and described the move to arrest Hai Bengaluru editor Ravi Belagere as an attempt to strangle the media. The delegation appealed to him to intervene in the matter at the earliest.
Stating that media bodies are not questioning the judgment of the Speaker and supremacy of the legislature, the delegation said these developments will affect the harmonious relation between legislature and the Fourth Estate.
Siddaramaiah assured the delegation of looking into the issue, said members of the organisations. Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) plans to appeal to the Speaker to reconsider the decision of the committee. “We are consulting legal and constitutional experts on the future course of action,” said N. Raju, president, KUWJ.
