Mount Carmel to open PG courses for boys

Bengaluru: Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru’s 67- year old premier all girls institution is all set to open its postgraduate section for boys from the next academic year.

Principal Sr Arpana informed the media that there has been a demand for PG courses in electronics and nanotechnology from boys and since the college already had necessary provisions for this they decided to go for it. It has also been said that only a certain percentage of seats will be allotted for the boys as the news campus is not yet ready.

The institution is said to have sent the proposal to offer Pg courses for boys to Bangalore University in March. On Thursday, the Academic council of the University approved the proposal sent by the College. BU vice-chancellor B Thimme Gowda told the media: “Once the government gives permission, they can start offering PG courses for boys too.”

Sr Arpana speaking on the decision to make the Post Graduate department co-education said that the governing body of MCC took the decision with the objective of ensuring better utilization of infrastructure and to make it available to a wider section of society, and also develop competitive and social skills among the student community.
