Bengaluru: Election special officer (enforcement) Munish Moudgil has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) asking them to probe the incident of cash smuggling in a police vehicle that was reported from Holenarasipur on April 16.

In his letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, Moudgil stated that on April 16, Rs 1.2 lakhs in cash was seized from an SUV registered to the Bengaluru city police in Holenarasipur. A case in this regard was registered at the Holenarasipur police station.

However, as a police vehicle was used to transport the cash, the case is extremely serious in nature. Moudgil pointed out that it is possible that police officers are involved and that there is a need for a proper investigation to take this case to a logical end.

This case has another interesting angle to it as the cash was found in Holenarasipura, the home turf of JDS supremo H D Devegowda and his family. The local MLA is PWD minister H D Revanna, son of HDD. Now, questions have been raised as to why a police vehicle was used to transport the money and who is the source of the cash.
