Bengaluru: A 34-year-old bus conductor with the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and his 51-year-old mother fell to their death from an apartment on the fifth floor, which belongs to a police inspector. The incident took place at Belathur in Kadugodi on Tuesday around 4.30 a.m.
The inspector, Chandrappa, works with the District Crime Bureau in Kolar. Now, he is in police custody.
The police have identified the deceased as Sundaramma and her son Maunesh from Chikkanahalli in Shahapura taluk of Yadgir district. The inspector had allegedly summoned them to his house four days ago to question them about his sister who has been missing for a week.
“The duo arrived from their home town and had been staying with Chandrappa to help him trace the missing sister. Our inquiries revealed that Maunesh, a married man, had an affair with Chandrappa’s sister. They had eloped a month ago. Chandrappa tracked them down, brought his sister back home and warned Maunesh to stay away from her,” said a senior police officer.
However last week, his sister went missing again. Suspecting Maunesh’s hand in her disappearance, Chandrappa summoned him to the city.
The building’s security guards alerted the police around 4.30 a.m. about the bodies. According to the police, Chandrappa was in the flat at the time of the incident. He told the police that the mother and son jumped from an open utility space in the kitchen. Chandrappa lived alone in the flat.
“At this point, we cannot conclude whether it was suicide or murder. We are awaiting the FSL and finger-print reports,” said Abdul Ahad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield division).
A police officer said, “We are probing if they had been harassed, and we are trying to trace Chandrappa’s sister. We will be questioning Maunesh’s wife too.”
