Bengaluru: At a reception hosted by Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi in the national capital on Tuesday, PM Modi suggested to CM Kejriwal to consult Nagendra for his persistent cough.

Nagendra, who was earlier a scientist at Nasa, is the Vice-Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana Yoga University. Speaking to sources on Wednesday, Nagendra said: “I am aware that Kejriwal has been refered to us. We also understand that Kejriwal has responded positively. Yet, it is tough to get confirmation due to the busy schedule of the politician.”

Based on Kejriwal’s case, a further course will be decided, said H R Nagarathna, the chief medical officer at the university.

Nagendra and his sister Nagarthna are the nephew and niece of former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader H V Sheshadri.

“When Modi was Gujarat chief minister, we had visited him and also taught yoga to a few Cabinet ministers. Besides, Modi had stayed at the Prashanthi Kuteeram, the university campus at Jigani on the outskirts of Bengaluru, when he came to the city a few years ago,” he said.

Over the last 40 years, the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana has treated around 20 lakh people for various ailments, including allergies and asthma. For treating cough and allergies, the focus will be on lowering hyper-sensitivity. The university has developed a “chair breathing’’ exercise, he said.

The university has also offered treatment to patients by using the integrated system of medicine.

Nagendra, a mechanical engineer by profession, had worked with the Indian Institute of Science and Nasa.

Later, he moved to the University of Harvard. After he returned to India, he founded Swami yoga university.
