Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of pursuing a “hidden agenda” of establishing a Hindu nation and said that the true colours of the Narendra Modi government had been exposed within the six months.

Addressing the party workers at the 130th Congress Foundation Day organised at the KPCC office, he said that the BJP would never be able to realise its hidden agenda in this country.

The concept of Hindu nation is detrimental to democracy. Secular forces should take up a united fight against the communal agenda of the BJP, he added. The BJP and Modi do not believe in decentralisation of power. It is undemocratic and leads to authoritarian rule.

“The BJP does not believe in secularism, in social justice and the welfare of all. It is unfortunate that the party has come to power at the Centre,” he said.

‘Communal sentiments’

Siddaramaiah also charged the State unit of the BJP with making efforts to stir up communal sentiments and said that his government would not allow such activities in the State.

KPCC president G Parameshwara warned that he would not hesitate to take action against the Congress leaders who did not take active part in the party’s membership drive. The leaders, including ministers and legislators, should ensure that the drive was successful. Party vice-president Rahul Gandhi would be reviewing the progress shortly, he added.

“You have become MLAs and ministers because of the party. The leaders must take the responsibility of conducting membership drive. The BJP has set a target of one crore new members. We cannot sit silent,” he said and added that he would soon tour the State to oversee implementation of the drive.
