Bengaluru: “Silence of our prime minister Narendra Modi on Cauvery issue is baffling while he remains keen on resolving problems in Afghanistan and Baluchistan”, said the state Congress working President Dinesh Gundu Rao.

“Simmering differences exist between two neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu and both have been involved in a tug of war over Cauvery issue since several decades. People in general and farmers especially are disillusioned by the repeated biased judgment against Karnataka given by the courts on the issue. Prime Minister remaining silent at this juncture while observing all the events is really baffling”, he continued.

“Playing politics on the issue is not the right option at this stage as the state is only demanding its drinking water share keeping in view the water level in state’s reservoirs”, he opined.

He also accused that state BJP leaders have distanced themselves both from Cauvery and Mahadayi issues and are not seeking the Prime Minister’s intervention. He said in conclusion that the letter posting campaign to PM has been undertaken by people to apprise the Prime Minister of the seriousness of the problem.

Confident of tie-ups with JDS in BBMP

He exuded the confidence of tie-ups with JDS in the forthcoming Mayoral elections of Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) . He said that the alliance has been working well since a year in solving the city’s civic problems and people are happy with its transparent functioning. He further added that in the best interests of the city, the tie-ups should continue as citizens were relieved of the BJP’s corrupt civic governance last year.

State congress working president is likely to meet the state JDS President and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to chalk out a strategy and strike an understanding before mayoral elections, which are scheduled for September 28th this year.
