
Bengaluru: Karnataka’s ministers have collectively agreed to donate their one year’s salary for the Covid relief efforts in the state.
“We, the ministers in Karnataka, have agreed to donate one year’s salary to Covid relief work,” said state Revenue Minister R Ashoka on Thursday, April 29.
Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa met with district officials to discuss Covid management and lockdown compliance. Ashoka briefed this to the reporter at the meeting.
230 acres of land have been set aside for cremation purposes and the Deputy Commissioners have handed over the land to the Tehsildars as a result.
Three crematoriums in Bengaluru had developed problems, prompting the construction of three more on the outskirts of the city at Mavallipura, Giddenahalli, and Tavarekere.
In Giddenahalli and Tavarekere, with a capacity to cremate 70 bodies, are now operational, and a third, in Mavallipura, with a capacity to burn 40 bodies, will be operational soon.
