Bengaluru: With the schools soon going to be closed for summer holidays, there are all possibilities of little children in drought-hit areas going to sleep empty stomach.
To ensure that the kids get enough food, the government has decided to continue the midday meal scheme during summer vacations as well, a move that will benefit over 27 lakh kids in 136 drought-hit taluks of 27 education districts.

An official circular issued by the midday meals director reads: “The students of government schools in 136 taluks should be served midday meals on all seven days of the week, including Sundays. The concerned authorities should insist that children come to school unlike other days to have lunch.”

The head teacher must visit the school every day to ensure proper supply of food to the children. Teachers too should come to schools on rotation basis.

The department is spending an estimated Rs 90 crore on this initiative.
