Bengaluru: The state government plans to supply mid-day meal to pregnant women in the state to avoid malnutrition among the infants, according to Minister for Women and Child Weflare Umashree.

Participating at a two-day programme organized for children at Cubbon Park, Minister Umashree said the state government has already introduced mid-day meal on a pilot basis in four taluks in the state. “The state government will extend this programme to other taluks in the state. If the mothers had nutritious food, children will not suffer from malnutrition. So, the government has decided to supply mid-day meal to pregnant women,’’ the minister said.
Appreciating the organizers for making arrangements for the children to participate in a variety of games, the minister said the children would be able to develop their skills when they get a right opportunity. “I am very happy with the programmes organized for children here,’’ the minister said.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA N A Haris said the state government would make arrangements for organising similar programmes for children at other places in the state. “The development of children will not be possible by one ministry or department. I want all the ministries and departments to join hands for the overall development of children in the state,’’ Haris said.
