Bengaluru: The Namma Metro has become one of the most popular mode of transport in the city with over three lakh riders choosing to commute in the Metro on weekdays. Even on holidays the metro sees around one lakh commuters.

Most of the metro passengers are regular and use a smart card to avoid standing in the queue. But one of the problems faced by these passengers is regular recharging. In a bid to help the riders to recharge their card anytime and anywhere, the BMRCL is planning to introduce public recharge system.

According to the sources in the BMRCL, as per the plan, the corporation is planning to set up the recharge units at public places like BMTC bus terminus and other places.

“These recharge centers will be fully automatic and no human intervention is required. It will reduce the pressure on the Metro station staff beside allowing the passengers to recharge their cards any time,” said a senior officer.

As per the plan, initially, these machines will be set up at few BMTC bus stations. “Based on the pubic feedback they will be expanded. With the BMRCL offering 15% discount for the smart card users, around 60% of the daily riders are using the smart card,” he added.
