Bengaluru: The Congress leaders and party workers in Mandya have started showing their displeasure over the party’s alignment with the Janata Dal (S).

Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar was sent to Mandya last week to pacify the angry local leaders and party workers, after H D Revanna’s sexist remark on Sumalatha. A very few showed up for the dinner party organised by Shivakumar.

Former Congress representative in Mandya City Council, Anil Kumar said that if D K Shivakumar visits Mandya to address the issues of Congress party workers he is welcome, but not as a JDS agent.” Anil Kumar has warned DKShi of consequences if he tried to back the JDS.

“Both Congress and JD(S) did not support Sumalatha when she had expressed her wish to contest the election. If the Congress decides to support JDS candidates, the party leaders and workers from Mandya will support Sumalatha and we will ensure that she wins,” Anil Kumar said.

Anil Kumar also said that the local leaders in Mandya will make sure that Nikhil Gowda does not win the election. Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Gowda had announced last week that he was the Congress-JDS coalition’s pick to contest polls from Mandya.

Sources from within the JDS say that the leaders had decided to support Sumalatha if the party fielded Nikhil Gowda from Mandya LS constituency.
