Kanakapura : In a shocking incident reported from Hosakabbalu in Satanoor police station limits of the taluk, a man smothered  his very own wife to death after a  petty quarrel in an inebriated state.

The deceased is Basamma alias Lakshmamma (38) who hailed from Kadambapura village in Halagur Hobali. She was  the second wife of Eshwar of Vasudevapura.  She was living with Eshwar after she abandoned her first husband Ramesh of Kotegudda village.

Even Eshwar had abandoned his first wife to live with Basamma and both were living in a rented house and were working as labourers.

It had become a habit for both to quarrel in a drunken state and as usual they had entered into a quarrel  on April 24, Thursday night. Neighbours had not bothered considering it their usual quarrel. But late in the night, Eshwar in a fit of anger smothered Basamma to death with a pillow and then fled to his first wife’s house.

The Police who rushed to the spot on coming to know about the murder, cleverly summoned Eshwar to the house when he confessed his guilt.

Investigations are underway.
