Mysuru /Bengaluru: The war of words between the ruling Congress and opposition Bhartiya Janata party (BJP) continued over Mahadayi river water dispute between Karnataka and Goa with each party alleging the other of politicizing the issue.
Talking to reporters in Mysuru, state Congress President G. Parameshwar questioned the motive of the Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar writing a letter to state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa instead of state chief minister Siddaramaiah. Congress state in-charge K Venugopal elicited similar opinion and said alternatively the letter could have been addressed to the agency at the centre dealing with the dispute. Both senior congress leaders are in Mysuru to take part in party workers meeting in Mysuru to galvanise them for upcoming state assembly polls. Parameshwar also questioned the motive behind the presence of Union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Prakash Javdekar in Rajbhavan in the absence of state Governor Vajubhai Vala.
Meanwhile, Prakash Javadekar described Congress as villain indulging in doublespeak on Mahadayi river water dispute.
Speaking to media persons here, Javadekar, who is also BJP’s poll in-charge for Karnataka, said “Opposing the issue in Goa and questioning the BJP over delay in resolving the issue in Karnataka are the two contrasting stands of the Congress with respect to the Mahadayi issue.”
Meanwhile, embarrassed over the outcome at the recently held Parivathan rally in Hubballi after assuring of announcing a possible solution to the dispute, state BJP president is busy in a face saving exercise at his residence, in the form of a core committee meeting with senior party leaders to find a way out to regain the confidence of agitating farmers.
With no immediate solution in sight, enraged farmers have intensified their protests in the city as well as in N-K region by calling for a N-K region bandh tomorrow.
