Bengaluru: The Lokayukta police have registered an FIR against the Congress MLA of Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly Constituency Munirathna, BBMP Executive Engineer (Planning) N Vijay Kumar and others in connection with preparing proposals for civil works that were already completed.

The police have arrested Vijay Kumar, who has been remanded to judicial custody for two days after being produced before the Lokayukta judge. The Lokayukta police took up a suo moto case in connection with the alleged irregularities. The case has been registered under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In the FIR, MLA Munirathna has been named as accused number one followed by Vijay Kumar. and others. Sources in the anti-corruption agency said that the the suo moto case was registered following the direction of Lokayukta SP Sonia Narang.

“Early this year, the government had release grants of Rs. 45 crore to Rajarajeshwarninagar constituency under Urban Development Scheme. The BBMP Executive Engineer had prepared 64 work proposals. Among them, 20 works were already existing and it was allegedly done at the behest of MLA Muniratna. Based on these allegations, the FIR is registered,” a source said.
