Lokayukta continue raid operation at BBMP

Bengaluru: Lokayukta police had arrested the Chief Accounts Officer Kanakaraju and Accounts Superintendent Narayanaswamy on Tuesday, however the continued with the raid operation at BBMP on Wednesday as well.

The Lokayukta raids at the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) continued for the second day after the arrested were produced before the Special Lokayukta court. The court has remanded them into judicial custody for fourteen days and shifted to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

Lokayukta police have also registered a ‘suo motu’ case against Chief Accounts Officer after allegations of he demanding bribes and kickbacks to clear bills. During the raid, Lokayukta police found that he had cleared bills worth more than Rs. 500 crore jumping the seniority line, in return of alleged pecuniary benefits.

Lokayukta officials were met with non-cooperating BBMP officials as lower rung officials had allegedly made away with the keys of four cupboards in the Chief Accounts Officer’s office.

Lokayukta police officials broke open the locks of these cupboards and seized the files from these cupboards on Wednesday.
