Bengaluru: An IT professional was molested and attacked by unidentified miscreants for refusing to stop feeding strays despite being warned. The incident occurred on Monday morning.
According to a report in the Bangalore Mirror, the woman who works at a major IT firm used to feed 14 stray dogs near her residence. Though she was on a kind deed, the locals were irked by the fact and warned her that the strays would be aggressive if they were not fed. But the woman, an animal lover tried to educate the locals that nothing of that sort would happen.
A few miscreants who were enraged after she refused to stop feeding poor strays, attacked her. They also attempted to remove her T-shirt. The woman called her friends for help and by the time they reached the spot, the attackers managed to flee. What was more shocking was that even though the victim along with her friends approached the Bommanahalli police with a video clip which was filmed during the attack, they refused to register a complaint. However, on Tuesday the victim called the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) division and with his intervention a complaint was registered.
Bangalore Mirror quoted one of the victim’s friend as saying, “Despite the incident being so serious, the police refused to accept the complaint. At 1.30am, we had to call MB Boralingaiah asking his help. Only after he intervened did the Bommanahalli police accept the complaint. The police have not done anything so far, despite the fact we identified all five neighbors who molested and assaulted my friend. Among the accused, one claims to be the president of some resident welfare association in Kodichikanahalli in Bommanahalli. My friend does not feed stray dogs on the street; she feeds them inside the compound of her house. There is a video of the entire incident and the video has been shown to the police and despite this evidence there has been no action from the police.”
“I stay in Jayanagar and by the time I went to Bommanahalli, the accused had disappeared. My friend, who is an animal-lover, stays in her own house and has been feeding the stray dogs for nearly one-and-half-years. The dogs are vaccinated and neutered. On August 2, my friend was threatened, again on the 27th she was threatened that she would be killed, along with the dogs. On Monday, she was molested and attacked,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Bommanhalli police have refused the allegations and said that despite the area not falling under their jurisdiction, they have registered the case. The victim’s area comes under the MICO Layout police limits and the case was transferred to them on Wednesday.
An officer was quoted saying, “The accused are booked for assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty under section 354, punishment for voluntarily causing hurt under section 323, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace under section 504 and criminal intimidation under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code. The MICO Layout police will record the statements of the victims again and will go through the video footage and will definitely take action against the accused.”
