Legislative Council election to be held on June 8

Bengaluru: Elections have been declared to six Legislative Council constituencies and voting will be held on June 8.

As the term of Southeast teachers’ constituency member Ramesh Babu, Maritibbegowda of south teachers’ constituency, Capt. Ganesh Karnik of southwest teachers’ constituency, Ramachandra Gowda of Bengaluru graduates constituency and Amarnath Patil of northeast graduates constituency will end on June 21, those seats will be vacant.

The BJP has given the ticket to Ayanoor Manjunath in the southwest graduate’s constituency. From southwest teachers’ constituency Capt. Ganesh Karnik will contest once again. In Bengaluru graduates’ constituency, instead of Ramachandra Gowda, A. Devegowda will contest the election. The party has fielded KB Srinivas from northeast graduates’ constituency.

According to the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) sources, the Congress would field Ramoji Gowda from Bengaluru graduates’ constituency, H B Dinesh from southeast graduates constituency, Manjunath from southeast teachers’ constituency and candidates are not finalized for other 3 constituencies.

JDS has given the ticket to Ramesh Babu from southeast teachers’ constituency and to Marithibbegowda from south graduates constituency.

The election notification will be published on May 15 (Tuesday). To file the nomination, May 22 (Tuesday) will be the last day and nomination papers can be withdrawn within May 25 (Friday). Voting will be held on June 8, from 8 am to 4 pm and the result will be announced on June 12 (Tuesday) after counting.
