Bengaluru: Following complaints, the education department has issued notification barring mobile usage and making dress code mandatory for the lecturers in colleges, here on July 5.

The higher education minister had received several complaints about lecturers in degree colleges using mobile phones during class. “They spend time updating Whatsapp and Facebook status. Female lecturers wear salwars and come to college,” said the complainants.

Now the education department has issued guidelines to all the principals of colleges across the state barring mobile phones in the college premises.

Women have been directed to wear saree instead of salwar in the colleges. “We have sought a detailed report on this,” said an official.
