Bengaluru: Two days after denying permission to D K Shivakumar to conduct a semi-virtual event celebrating his official taking charge as KPCC president, the Chief Minister’s Office has approved the request.
It can be recalled that on June 9, the Karnataka government denied permission to Shivakumar to assume charge as his party’s state unit President on June 14. The decision was faced by a lot of backlash from the Opposition.
The event was planned to be held at the KPCC’s headquarters located at Queen’s Road in Bengaluru city. Around 150 people were expected to participate in the event that was to be broadcasted in various KPCC offices in the state.
Thanking Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa for permitting the event, DKShi added that the new date for the event will be decided during a discussion with the party members.
Thank you @CMofKarnataka for permitting us to go ahead with ‘Prathigna’ event. A new date will be confirmed in due course after discussing with party leaders shortly.

It can be recalled that DKShi had written to the CM seeking his permission to hold the event on June 14, taking the prevailing corona crisis into consideration.
He informed the same to the media saying, “I have written to the CM regarding the event. I will follow all of the government’s guidelines properly.”
D K Shivakumar was initially supposed to officially take charge of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on May 31, however, this was postponed as the nationwide lockdown was extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was rescheduled for June 7, however, this was also postponed due to the COVID-19 restrictions and the swearing-in was rescheduled for June 14. Now, a new date is awaited.
