Bengaluru: The State government has declared holiday for schools and colleges in the State on July 25 and 26 after the state transport employees’ union called for a state-wide strike.

Schools, colleges including private institutions will remain closed in the interest of students and the staff, a government statement said on Sunday.

The decision came after a high end meeting between Minister of Transport Ramalinga Reddy and KSRTC officials on Sunday.

About 80,000 maxi cabs will be arranged for commuters on Monday and Tuesday regarding which talks are on with private players, said Reddy after the meeting. Earlier, holiday was declared for government offices too, but was cancelled at the last moment.

The KSRTC employees have gone on stir from Sunday morning demanding 35 per cent hike in salary. While the state has agreed to give 10 per cent hike, the employees have refused to take it. Meetings between the government and the employee unions could not find a solution and has ultimately led to a strike.
