Bengaluru: Law Minister T B Jayachandra on Friday said that the state cabinet has decided to write to the governor to suspend nine sitting and retired members of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) for their role in irregularities in filling 362 gazetted posts in 2011.
Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, he said the government will also recommend to Governor Vajubhai Vala that he write to President Pranab Mukherjee to grant sanction for their prosecution.
The Cabinet will recommend to the governor to suspend the sitting members of the KPSC, S R Rangamurthy, M Mahadeva, H V Parswanath, S Dayashankar and H D Patil and retired members B S Krishnaprasad, N Ramakrishna, Kaniram and the then secretary K R Sunder.
Jayachandra pointed out while the high court had upheld the suspension of another member, Mangala Sridhar, there was a stay on her prosecution. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigated the case last year and submitted a report to the State government confirming corruption in the recruitment.
Based on the report, the Cabinet had withdrawn the notification for the selection of 352 gazetted probationary posts for the year 2011 and decided to conduct fresh examinations. The KPSC scam came to light when a candidate, Dr Mythri, filed a petition about the malpractices in the recruitment process for KPSC gazetted probationers.
