Bengaluru: The various unions of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) have decided to reduce the procurement price of milk by Rs 1 to Rs 2 (per liter) collected from the farmers.

According to a press release of KMF, “Usually, more milk is stored during the month of June, July, November, and December. But this year, because of good rains, the storage of milk has crossed the expectation in May itself.”

“Moreover, now there is less demand for the milk products in national and international markets. In spite of that, to promote dairy farming every day, 81.78 lakh liters of milk is being purchased from the farmers”, it added.

Meanwhile, KMF clarified, “Based on the financial condition, milk unions decide on the purchase of the milk and fix price accordingly. Similarly, now the unions have taken a decision to deduct the payment to farmers by Rs 1 to Rs 2 per liter. After the monsoon, the price will increase again. There will not be any change in the support price Rs 5 per liter presently given by the government.”
