Bengaluru: The family of deceased farmer Shivanna, who had blamed DGP Om Prakash’s son Kartikesh and other police officials before ending life, have asked for police protection.
It may be recalled that 60-year-old Shivanna consumed poison on Sunday allegedly over property dispute and named DGP’s son Karthikesh and other officials for the extreme step.
Ramanagaram SP Chandragupta has recorded statements from the kin of the deceased farmer and ordered an investigation into the suicide. According to a report in Deccan Herald, the officials are verifying the video footage in which the farmer is seen blaming a few influential people of supporting his rival Lokesh in a property dispute.
Meanwhile, Shivanna’s daughter has sought for police protection as her father had named influential people before ending his life and alleged that her uncle, Lokesh had threatened the family.
Shivanna’s son Arun Kumar also alleged that cops had asked the family not to name DGP’s son. “After my father’s death, I went to the police station to lodge a complaint, but the police asked me not to name the DGP’s son Kartikesh in the complaint. I told the police that my father has mentioned Kartikesh’s name in the video, but they did not pay heed. The police should consider the video as evidence and conduct a fair investigation.”
However, DGP Om Prakash has denied any such role by his son and said that Karthikesh was not in the country and he was unnecessarily being named in the case.
