Bangalore :The new Bangalore Police commissioner, M. N. Reddi, had, on taking over, said that he would be tough on rowdies and he walked the talk on Friday.

Praveen, a resident of K G Halli, was going towards Horamavu Ring Road with his accomplice Kumaresh, and a kidnap victim, Shrinivas, whom the duo had kidnapped on Thursday.  The duo had taken the victim shrinivas to the Kolar Gold fields. A complaint had been lodged against them and the police were actively pursuing the case by tracking their cell phones.

They learnt that the duo would be coming to the city and reach the Horamavu ring road by mid moring on Friday.

Accordingly the Police team led by Inspector K S Nagaraj set a trap and were waiting for the duo in mufti in another vehicle.  The duo arrived with the victim in an auto rickshaw. As both vehicles approached the Kalpalli cemetery, the police vehicle reportedly touched the auto.
Immediately, Praveen and Kumaresh got down from the rickshaw in anger and Praveen reportedly moved towards constable Syed, to attack him with a machete, while Kumaresh — wielding a long dagger — attempted to fend off the other cops.

Seeing the danger to his men, inspector Nagaraj pulled out his service revolver and fired at Praveen’s right leg, injuring him. The police then nabbed the duo and rescued Shrinivas, while Praveen was shifted to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
