Bengaluru: “Kasa Muktha Bharata” (Garbage-Free Nation), a campaign aiming to achieve responsible, end-to-end solid waste management in the parts of the city was held observing Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2. The campaign was held In line with the ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission that was launched by PM Modi on this day last year.
Members of the Deepanjali Nagar of Vijayanagar Assembly Constituency in Srinagar took part in the initiative while members of Jayanagar Assembly Constituency with MLA Vijya Kumar also participated. The campaign was held in several other places.
The concept is a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, in which, elimination of open defection by 2019 was one of the stated aims. To measure the progress towards this goal, the government maintains a list of places which have turned “ODF” or open defecation-free, implying that the area’s entire population has access to toilets and is using them regularly instead of defecating in the open.
