Bengaluru: Karnataka will be filing a plea before the Supreme Court today urging it to exempt students from the state from the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)?for the current academic year.

The State government on Saturday had asked the students to appear for all entrance examinations who are aspiring for medical and dental under-graduate courses.

Students from Karnataka have already appeared for the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) on?Sunday which is being considered as NEET-I. The SC has directed CBSE?and Medical?Council of India to hold NEET-II on July 24 for those who have not applied for AIPMT.

Advocate General Madhusudhan R?Naik said on Sunday that students from Karnataka have already prepared for Common Entrance Test (CET)?being conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA)?for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses.

“Implementing NEET?for the academic year 2016-17 will put them to hardship. We will seek exemption from the national test for the current year,” he said.

Naik stated that the State government was not opposing NEET, but was only seeking seeking exemption for the current academic year.

It may be recalled that, the Supreme Court on Thursday had declared NEET, a single common entrance test for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses, in two phases for the academic year 2016-17.
