New Delhi/Bengaluru: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has identified 70 routes across the country to provide its double-decker bus service and out this five routes are in Karnataka.

The five routes selected in Karnataka are Bengaluru-Mangalore, Bengaluru- Chennai, Bengaluru-Mysuru, Bengaluru-Hyderabad and Bengaluru-Hubballi. As per the rules formed by the ministry, the double-decker buses are 82-seat buses. They will have two doors at the bottom and emergency exits on the top.

According to the Union ministry, because of the raise in the number of private vehicles, the government has to increase the number of roads. This is costly. So, it is trying to de-motivate public from purchasing vehicles by providing good public transport facility.
