Bengaluru: In response to the surge in COVID cases in Kerala, the Karnataka health department is taking proactive measures to address potential increases in the state. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao assured the public that the situation is currently under control, and there’s no need for panic.
Mock drills will be conducted at government hospitals to assess and ensure an adequate supply of oxygen cylinders, consumables, and medicines. While it’s deemed premature to close borders with Kerala, testing will be intensified for individuals with Covid symptoms, ILI, and SARI cases. One in 20 ILI cases and all SARI cases will undergo Covid testing. Those with a CT value higher than 25 will undergo mandatory genome sequencing.
The health department is also procuring more RT-PCR kits, and testing will be increased based on reported cases. A meeting with the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is scheduled to discuss additional precautionary measures. Although there has been a marginal increase in cases over the last few days, no deaths have been reported in the last two months, except for one with multiple comorbidities. Currently, there are 58 active Covid cases in the state, with appropriate isolation and treatment measures in place.
