Bengaluru: The Government of Karnataka, just a day after stating that no night curfew would be imposed in the state, has imposed a night curfew from 10 PM to 6 AM starting today, December 23. The curfew will be in place till January 2 and the guidelines for the same will be released by the government in the evening.
The development comes after some passengers who arrived from Britain tested positive for the new strain of coronavirus, which the UK government has said is “out of control” in that country.
Announcing the curfew while speaking to the media, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that the night curfew is being imposed as per the advice of the Central Government and the Technical Advisory Committee in view of the emergence of the new strain of coronavirus.

The CM added, “All those who are coming from other countries must carry with them a COVID-19 negative certificate procured within 72 hours of the travel.”
“I request everyone to cooperate,” he said.
Speaking to the media, health minister Dr K Sudhakar said, “All outdoor activities should be completed by 10 PM and all people must return home by the same. There will be a ban on New Year’s celebrations and the decision has been taken in view of the safety of the people.”
“From December 23 to January 2, no function or festive celebration will be allowed to take place after 10 PM. This curb applies to all kinds of functions,” the minister said in response to a query regarding Christmas celebrations.
“We are also monitoring international passengers arriving in the state but there’s no ban on inter-state travel. Schools will reopen for Class 10 and Class 12 students from January 1,” he clarified.
With this, Karnataka is the second state after Maharashtra to announce a new set of restrictions amid global fears over the new strain of coronavirus discovered in the UK.
