
Bengaluru: Union Minister for Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on June 11 released the rank list of Universities, colleges, Technology, Medical, and other institutions of higher education under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) Bangalore emerged as the second-best university in India. A total of six institutions from Karnataka have made it to the top 100 this year.
The ranking framework prepared by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), assesses the quality of universities and higher education institutes across India on various parameters including teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcome outreach and inclusivity, and perception. Karnataka institutes have excelled this year and the ranking only reiterates the fact that Karnataka is the cradle of excellence in education, be it any field of endeavor.
According to the ranking list announced by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), 6 institutes from the state are in the top 100 in the overall category. These include Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (2nd rank), Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal (14th rank), National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Mangaluru (33rd rank), University of Mysore (47th rank), and JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (54th rank); Bengaluru university secured 100th rank.
In the 101-150 rank bracket, Jain University, Bengaluru, KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research, Belagavi, Kuvempu University, Shivamogga, Mangalore University, Mangaluru, NITTE University, Dakshina Kannada, Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru featured.
In the 151-200 category, JSS Science and Technology University Mysuru, KLE Technological University, Hubballi, N M A M Institute of Technology Dakshina Kannada, P E S College of Engineering, Bengaluru, PES University, Bengaluru, Sri Devraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, Kolar, and Tumkur University, Tumakuru are featured.
Among the colleges, St. Joseph`s College of Commerce, Bengaluru, secured an All India ranking of 72 while St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru, both Jesuit Educational Institutions, is featured in the 101-150 ranking bracket. University College, Mangaluru was placed 198th in the all India ranking of colleges.
The ranking was also announced for different disciplines including pharmacy, law, medicine, and engineering. Many colleges from the state featured in the top 200 rankings.
In the Medicine category, NIMHANS topped the Karnataka list at 4, KMC Manipal at 9, JSS Medical College at 20, KMC Mangalore at 21 MS Ramaiah Medical College at 30 and KS Hegde Medical Academy entered the list at 36.
