Bengaluru: It was during first wave of Covid-19 that the State Public Libraries Department launched its digital books platform for the readers. In the last one and half years, this platform registered over 1 crore registration. This library can be accessed from any part of the world by downloading the app or visiting the website https://www.karnatakadigitalpubliclibrary.org/ Till now this library was accessed by 55.45 crore visitors which reveal its popularity.
The library was launched on February 26, 2020 by then Minister S. Suresh Kumar. This digital platform is not a mere library. Instead, it has a simulation lab that helps the readers to understand concepts practically, videos, and books which helps the readers for the self-assessment. E journals are another highlight of this library.
18.755 lakh e-contents, 4.13 lakhs e-books, 5.557 lakhs e-videos are major highlight of this digital library. Along with Kannada text books of various languages including Urdu, English medium, etc are also uploaded on this website which is helping the readers. Over 10 lakh students also extended learning support through this website. Kids have a separate section in this digital library.
However, the big drawback of this library is that e-books of a few important Kannada writers are not uploaded as they have yet to give consent for hosting their e-books.
